RANKED: The 5 Wealthiest Owners Of Premier League Clubs If Sir Jim Ratcliffe Buys Stake In Manchester United

Sir Jim Ratcliffe

With Sir Jim Ratcliffe seemingly poised to take over the day-to-day running of Manchester United, we have decided to compare his wealth to owners of other English clubs.

Considering that most teams struggle to make a profit, you do need to have more money than sense to invest in elite football.

There are various reasons why multi-billionaires decide to pour resources into such clubs. Prestige is certainly a major factor. Being a custodian of a world-renowned team does offer certain benefits.

Press the next page as we rank the 5 wealthiest owners in the Premier League (as of October 2023).

5) Shahid Khan – Fulham (£9.7bn)

The American billionaire is said to have made most of his fortune running a car parts firm Flex-N-Gate.

Along with his son Tony, he now owns the NFL side Jacksonville Jaguars, All-Elite Wrestling, as well as the Cottagers.

The Khan family took control of the West London club in 2013, taking over from Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed.

During their decade at Fulham, they have suffered three relegations and two promotions.

4) Stan Kroenke – Arsenal (£12bn)

The Real Estate mogul has made a lot of money by buying apartment blocks and commercial buildings, including shopping centres.

Kroenke moved into sport ownership when he purchased NBA basketball team Denver Nuggets. He then bought Hockey (Colorado Avalanche), MLS (Colorado Rapids) and NFL (LA Rams) franchises.

The American billionaire took full control of Arsenal in 2011, before making it a private company in 2018.

The Kroenke’s running of the club has led to protests from supporters in the past but recent success has begun to improve their reputation.

3) Sheikh Mansour – Manchester City (£17bn)

The owner of the Premier League champions is officially worth £17bn, although his assets are likely to be a lot higher than that.

Mansour is part of the United Arab Emirates royal family, and he also serves as the country’s vice president and deputy prime minister.

Since taking over Manchester City in 2008, he has also purchased 11 other football teams around the world, putting them under the umbrella of the City Football Group.

His trophy haul over the past 15 years at City is unmatched by any other top-flight club.

2) Sir Jim Ratcliffe – Manchester United (£29.7bn)

The British multi-billionaire has made his money with petrochemical firm INEOS, having founded the company all the way back in 1998.

Ratcliffe began investing in sport in 2017 when he bought Swiss club Lausanne Sport, quickly followed by Ligue One side Nice. He also has cycling and sailing teams under the INEOS names.

The 70-year-old made an attempt to buy Chelsea last year, only for him to lose out to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.

Ratcliffe is now expected to take a stake in Manchester United. Despite having a net worth 7.5 times higher than the Glazers, he will be a minority shareholder.

1) Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund – Newcastle (£538bn)

The Magpies have, by quite some distance, the wealthiest owners in English football.

Newcastle are effectively owned by a country’s investment fund which has almost limitless cash reserves.

There are also minority shareholders in the Reuben brothers as well as Amanda Staveley, who are in charge of the day-to-day running of the club.

However, effectively, the owner is Saudi’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
