Considering West Ham’s precarious position in the table before football was suspended due to the Coronavirus outbreak, it is not a surprise that manager David Moyes is considering a big overhaul of the squad at the end of the season.
Of course, with the campaign currently in limbo, there is no certainty as to when the transfer window will be reopened, but the Claret & Hugh say there are at least three players who could be shown the exit door.
With another two players likely to leave on free transfers at the end of their contracts, it means there are now up to five West Ham stars who could be departing the London Stadium.
Press the “next page” as we take a look at who they are.
Having failed to impress Moyes or previous coach Manuel Pellegrini, it looks as though the Swiss international will be moved on just a year after arriving at the club.
Some may argue that he hasn’t been given a chance, considering he has only played 11 games and made three starts, but he clearly hasn’t impressed in training. They will likely take a loss on the £8m they paid for him.
The Congolese international does have his admirers among the Irons fanbase, but the fact is, he is a wingback, not a fullback or a left-winger.
With Moyes unlikely to employ a 3-5-2 on a regular basis, the departure of Masuaku would not be surprising. There is likely to be a lot of interest in the player so West Ham should be able to make a profit on him.
The emergence of Jeremy Ngakia means the former Fulham defender could well be deemed surplus to requirements in the summer.
The 27-year-old has struggled with injuries this campaign, having suffered both hamstring and shoulder problems, which has forced Moyes into relying on veteran Pablo Zabaleta as well as the impressive Ngakia.
Another transfer mistake from the previous regime, the Colombian international has failed to justify even the £4m which was spent on him two years ago.
The fact that Sanchez has lasted this long at the Hammers is a damning indictment of the fact that no other club were willing to take him on. He will leave on a free transfer this summer.
An able fullback but it’s clear from performances this season that his legs have gone. The Argentine has been replaced by Ngakia in the starting line up in Ryan Fredericks’s absence, and may not even feature again for the Hammers.
Unlike Sanchez, though, Zabaleta has pulled his weight but at 35 years of age, time has simply caught up with him.
