£11.5m Rated West Ham Target Reveals He Is Still Holding Out For Premier League Move

Racing Genk right-back Joakim Maehle says he still has his sights on moving to the Premier League. The Danish international was linked to West Ham during the January transfer window.

However, the 22-year-old has confirmed that Southampton were the only team to officially make a bid, although he remains hopeful that an English club will come in for him this summer:

“The interest from Southampton was concrete, but their bid was not high enough But I still believe that one day I might end up in Southampton and the Premier League.”

“My agent doesn’t tell me everything, but as I said, only Southampton have really been in the picture.”

The Hammers will likely be in a market for a new right-back with Pablo Zabaleta set to leave the London Stadium at the end of the season.

Jeremy Ngakia has certainly proven that he is more than up to the task of playing Premier League football, but his lack of experience may force manager David Moyes into the transfer market so as to provide competition for Ryan Fredericks.

Whether Maehle remains a target for West Ham, we shall have to wait and see. Genk apparently rejected an £11.5m bid from Southampton in January but they may have to settle for a lot less than that now considering the current financial climate.
